As a member of the Field Shared Services for South Africa, the Property Infrastructure Systems Manager is responsible for maintaining the stability of infrastructure operations across a cluster of hotels in South Africa.

Acting as a representative for the IT teams, this role is the Subject Matter Expert (SME) on all aspects of technology infrastructure and is responsible to the hotel for technology planning, decision-making, implementation, and maintenance with a strong focus on compliance, security, incident management, hardware and software lifecycle management, backup and recovery, monitoring, capacity planning, inventory management and guest satisfaction.

This also includes infrastructural needs of the Marriott On Property Opera environment, VMWare Hypervisor, Simphony, GPOS, GPNS, Active Directory and other environments that are used by properties in the EMEA continent.

Business Context

Reporting Relationships:

  • This position reports to the Regional Manager. Additionally, will have an indirect reporting relationship with Senior Property Infrastructure Systems Manager.
  • Interacts with various levels within the organization and key vendors including all groups within EMEA IT

Work Environment:

  • Position will be multi-property

Position may require 24x7x365 (pager/cell phone) coverage or schedule rotations. The property infrastructure systems manager is responsible for determining his/her own schedule to meet the business or project needs while maintaining a high level of service to the property

Ensuring Technology Needs are Met

  • Evaluates and makes recommendations regarding technology/asset life cycles
  • Foresees, identifies and resolves system(s)’ performance problems
  • Creates and ensures implementation of disaster recovery and business continuity plans as they relate to infrastructure
  • Ensures securing and maintaining technology assets accordance with Marriott International policies and standards.
  • Possesses advanced knowledge in the areas of data communications, desktop support, and servers/networks.

General Responsibilities:

  • Manage VMware virtualization environment and its associated components including vSphere, vCenter, Horizon and ESXi
  • Patch and update drivers and firmware for servers
  • Manage Active Directory on Microsoft Windows Server platform. Administer and maintain network end-user accounts, permissions, access rights and group policy management
  • Create and maintain systems documentation
  • Install, upgrade, and maintain server software, applications, and patching
  • Account Management in Active Directory
  • Maintain backup systems and scheduling
  • Diagnose, resolve and document hardware/software problems in a timely and accurate manner
  • Install and configure all infrastructure (Network, Storage, Compute) required to support VDI environments
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues that affect customers using VDI.
  • Build long-term relationships within team and amongst peers by creating an environment of safety, innovation, integrity, and honest open communication.
  • Drive decisions that have an impact on quality, availability and effectiveness of business activities beyond immediate teams.

  • Establishes and implements policies, procedures, and standards to verify overall technology reliability within Corporate IT guidelines
  • Responsible for compliance with appropriate Marriott International Policy and Information Security Manual.
  • Ensures compliance to technology-related vendor contracts.
  • Provides timely, accurate, and detailed status reports as requested.
  • Provides for 24/7 Infrastructure Support

  • Image servers, installs new software applications, applies patches, map drives to correct server/network

Forecasting and Complying with Financial Parameters

  • Possesses in-depth understanding of technology contracts
  • Review vendor proposals and selects appropriate vendor for infrastructure related technologies/hardware.
  • Understands the financial dynamics of the hotel and applies knowledge/judgment to achieve technology-related goals
  • Creates/conducts periodic inventories of applications and hardware.
  • Reviews operating statements: researches and resolves discrepancies in technology charges

  • Provides timely, accurate, and detailed status reports as requested
  • Provides exceptional customer service

Demonstrating and Applying IT Knowledge

  • Keeps up-to-date technically and applies new knowledge to the job
  • Demonstrates knowledge of job-relevant issues, products, systems, and processes
  • Provides technical expertise and support.
  • Responsible for managing technology/asset life cycle. Ensures that necessary equipment (PCs, servers, telecom-related etc.) is ordered and available
  • Accountable for disaster recovery and business continuity as it relates to technology
  • Ensure monthly checklists are completed
  • Installs, monitors, and maintains telecommunications equipment including cabling and providing technical guidance as needed
  • Troubleshoots high-speed Internet access problems
  • Escalates problems as appropriate through Regional Manager and Senior Property Infrastructure Systems Manager.


  • 5+ years iT infrastructure and support experience.
  • Experience supporting a virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) such as VMware Horizon
  • Microsoft Windows Active Directory with server administration (including Group Policy)
  • 5+ years’ experience in installing and supporting Microsoft Windows environment for servers and desktops
  • Must have a technical background, preferably within an infrastructure team.
  • Must understand technical requirements, architecture, and operational impact of various projects
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills; can effectively communicate knowledge and expertise and has ability to translate technology solutions into business solutions.
  • Ability to travel occasionally, must have reliable transportation
  • Demonstrated skills in support of applications, hardware, operating systems, and telecommunications.
  • Ability to multi-task effectively while setting priorities and meeting deadlines.


  • Previous experience in IT Global Field Services or systems support role desirable.
  • System-related professional certifications desired.
  • Demonstrated hospitality management skills
  • Marriott experience (field technology architecture, related IT design standards, multi-brand experience)
